Film & Exhibition

For our final symposium we commissioned a number of artistic responses to themes that had emerged across the network. Natalie Hyacinth produced Utopia Dub, a multimedia event centring around a live dub soundsystem with improvised lyrics and discussion exploring Rastafarian utopianism and dub futurities. Miranda Iossifidis screened Under the Volcano, a film the network commissioned in response to issues raised at Utopia After the Border, which Miranda had attended. Ada Cable screened a working version of Refugia, her network commissioned film exploring the physical and virtual spaces created by trans women in order that they might organise within and against a world hostile to their existence. And we displayed Concrete Utopias: An Education of Desirean exhibition of works by Newcastle University architecture students.
